Clearinghouse for Clinical Rotations

Interior Alaska AHEC

The Interior area is the largest AHEC coverage area in Alaska.  There are many clinics in the rural and underserved areas of the Interior but only one major In-Patient facility in 225,000 square miles.  There are a few health clinics on the limited road system and quite a few (very small) clinics that are not accessible by road.  Many of the smaller clinics are scattered along the Yukon, Tanana and Nenana rivers.

Variations in temperature and weather conditions are among the most extreme in Alaska with winter temperatures dipping to -65 deg. (F) and summer temperatures hitting 90 deg.(F) or more.  Periods of daylight vary from a few hours during Winter Solstice (Dec. 21) to almost 24-hours of sunlight on the Summer Solstice (June 21).  The Interior of Alaska is a Great Land of extremes in just about every category.  The people who inhabit the Great Land are big-hearted, hard working and love adventure.  We invite you to join the health care professionals of Alaska as we work to provide the highest quality health care in the most amazing place on earth.
